Lies, Damn Lies & the GOP
AJ Robinson

an answer: is anyone actually buying the line of garbage the GOP is pedaling now? I mean, let me see if I get this straight, the new healthcare website is having some problems, which is normal for any new government program. When the new Medicare prescription drug program launched, it had major troubles. When “Romney Care” started in Massachusetts, it was just about a total failure, as least based on enrollment. Add to that is the fact that the GOP has done everything in its power to sabotage the healthcare law since it passed. At last count, how many times have they voted to repeal it, forty-something?

The website isn’t working right. I went to it, tried to sign up and had major issues with it. It took me nearly three weeks to get through the system! Yet, I did it, and now I’m in the process of getting information on the various health plans available to me. This is great, as I’ve not had healthcare for, let me think, seven years. I can’t wait for it to kick in. I’ve been having major stomach pains for weeks. I’d like to get to a doctor, but I have to wait. I sure hope it’s nothing serious.

Yet, what have the GOP been doing lately? Whining and complaining about the website not working! They’ve actually had hearings where they’ve raked officials over the coals for it not working: are they for real. Oh well, these ARE the same people who caused the government shutdown and then yelled at park officials for daring to close the World War II Memorial. They stood there with the vets, sucking up to them, calling them national heroes, and then went back to the Capitol and voted to cut food stamps. Many vets need those stamps to feed themselves and their families.

I wish I’d been that park official the Congressman yelled at. Oh, I SO would have told him off.

This brings up an important point, one that continues to perplex me. Why is it that people – common folk, the press, the media – continue to let the GOP get away with these things? I really want to know something from my fellow Americans: are you buying any of this crap? I mean, really, when the various GOP idiots get up there and talk about gutting the Affordable Care Act and justify it as wanting to save lives, are you buying this? They accuse Obama of lying, and the press simply reports it as if its gospel. This is coming from the same people who claimed, ah, let’s see, let’s review, shall we?

The ACA would result in Death Panels; it would literally kill women, children and the elderly. It would crush the economy. Do you remember those lies?

Let’s see, Obama was less than truthful about people being able to keep their old, horrible, health insurance. Okay, I’ll grant you that one; that was his bad act. However, consider this: if he’d told the truth, what would have happened? As his explanation would not reduce to a simple thirty-second sound bite, the GOP would have trumpeted it as proof that Obama was going to take away everyone’s healthcare. I’ll give him a pass on that deception and tic off one of the GOP lies, leaving how many GOP mistruths?

I’ve lost count.

Combining the gimlet-eye of Philip Roth with the precisive mind of Lionel Trilling, AJ Robinson writes about what goes bump in the mind, of 21st century adults. Raised in Boston, with summers on Martha's Vineyard, AJ now lives in Florida. Working, again, as an engineeer, after years out of the field due to 2009 recession and slow recovery, Robinson finds time to write. His liberal, note the small "l," sensibilities often lead to bouts of righteous indignation, well focused and true. His teen vampire adventure novel, "Vampire Vendetta," will publish in 2020. Robinson continues to write books, screenplays and teleplays and keeps hoping for that big break.
